Kinja'd!!!

I'm late on announcing this one, but I'll say it anyway. Today is October 6th. It is one the lesser known 'holidays' in this country. Yes it is the one day set aside to celebrate this country's largest ethnic background. Right now you may be thinking so what? Well I'll tell you what. I am proposing a Monday night challenge; Find a car, that to you can be a symbol of the long ties between these great nations.

Nope. In today's society suggesting that means you are racist. Also you swedes don't even get a day, which is a disappointment. Although there are local Swedish celebrations and such here in MN.

I can't say the same myself. Most of my family is German, and some Dutch. But I was born in Germany so there's that.

That works just fine. The only non German (before I had my kids with anything but German heritage ) was one Irishwoman who married a great uncle. Last name Weiss...

Sorry I don't believe there is one. But you guys get to split northern MN with the Swedes, so yay? Also there are some local celebrations, nothing big. Kind of sucks.

It's interesting that my father's side of the family is German and Dutch. And just about every car I have is German.

Other than the truck, but Germans would build a truck if they had to move things around the US.

The best tie between the US and Germany? A BMW built in Spartanburg, SC.

Norwegian?

German. Most of my family came here just before WWI , some even earlier than that. Most were German, some were Dutch. The strongest influence on what shaped me would be my mom's side of the family, almost completely German. If you list off the stereotypes of what an old German man is like, that would be my grandpa. My father is in the Army, I mention that because he was stationed in Germany in the late 80's, and that is where I was born (my avatar is the flag of that town, Bad Kissingen). That is why I am interested in learning about German language and culture.
